A CALL FOR PEACE TRAINS
WHEREAS our planet is in jeopardy -- children live in poverty, violence is everywhere; the air is filthy, and ice caps are melting -- we call upon ordinary people of the world to join us in a cry for peace by reaching out with your hands and building a carriage for a Peace Train, or even an entire train.
A Peace Train is an art-form -- with an engine, carriages and caboose. Through pictures drawn, painted, collaged, quilted or otherwise crafted, plus by adding a few words -- one makes a statement of and for peace, drawn from the maker's own experiences.
A Peace Train can be of any size, form or color, and of any medium. It includes words of peace, poems, stories, and dreams of peace and happiness. It may be made by one individual or a group, a class of children or a club of adults, anyone. Our goal is to raise a consciousness for peace from the grass roots, especially from and for children.
Some Peace Train pictures, of our choosing, will be displayed on our web-site. Others will move on the Web and in ordinary mail; they will move in books, documentaries, exhibitions, on real, bonafide trains around many countries, stopping for people to get on and view them. Everyone will know that the desire for peace and friendship is a common one worldwide. We also hope to work toward holding regional and national Peace Train fairs across the globe, and International Peace Train Fairs at locations where PEACE is urgently needed.
These tasks take time and persistence. We pledge our utmost to realize these goals. As our staff is small and all volunteers, we will not be able to return your submissions. However, please include your first name, age, and nationality somewhere on the carriage or engine of the train you have made in case yours is chosen for exhibition and/or publication. For purposes of safety, we won’t publish family names or particular addresses. Also, if you wish, send along a picture of you or your group holding up completed pictures of peace, again only with first names, ages, and nationality. All submissions will, without exception, become the property of the Peace Train movement to use in any form it deems appropriate for conveying the message of peace. This is not a profit-making project. In case of fortuitous income, it will be fully reverted to the Peace Train work or be donated to related children's welfare organizations.
CERTIFICATES
We wish to stress that this is not a contest. Everyone who participates is entitled to download their own certificate signed by the four Original Peace Train Dreamers, declaring the Peace Train maker(s) a "Conductor of the Peace Train." Please help spread the word, and collect Peace Trains from your friends.
.
May the Peace Trains roll over the hills like wild flowers!
PLEASE SEND YOUR PEACE TRAIN CREATIONS TO ANY OF THE REGIONAL TERMINALS OF THE PEACE TRAIN MOVEMENT LISTED BELOW. PLEASE DO NOT SEND MONETARY CONTRIBUTIONS.
Lacking staff, we cannot answer everyone's questions or remarks individually. We will try to answer what we can as general statements on the web.
With our deepest appreciation,
